ST. LOUIS (AP) -Manny Legace kept the Anaheim Ducks down, giving the St. Louis Blues a chance to end a prolonged shootout drought.

Legace, the Blues' lone All-Star, made 30 saves through overtime and then handled Ryan Getzlaf and Todd Bertuzzi in the shootout of a 1-0 victory for his fourth shutout of the season on Friday night. Andy McDonald and Brad Boyes scored in the first two rounds for the Blues, who had been 1-for-16 on shootout attempts all season.

"It was just a beautiful effort all the way around," Legace said. "As soon as we scored that first one and the crowd got fired up, it was a good feeling."

The Ducks had the majority of scoring chances, including a second-period power play when Legace had to make six saves. Anaheim has dropped five in a row, totaling five goals in that span.

"We played more the type of hockey that's going to be required to have success," coach Randy Carlyle said. "We battled in every area of the rink

"These shootouts are tough when you lose them and they're great when you win."

Despite the loss, Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere was also credited with a shutout, giving him 28 for his career, a new Ducks franchise record.

McDonald, traded by the Ducks to St. Louis in mid-December with Doug Weight going to Anaheim, beat Giguere with a high shot to the stick side. Boyes slipped the puck in on the other side in the second round.

"It's a little bit weird seeing those guys," McDonald said. "I just concentrated on trying to help the team win. We played a very smart game."

The lone shootout goal for the Blues before Friday was a game-winner by Boyes in a 3-2 victory over Nashville on Nov. 17. The Blues have won a pair of one-goal games since the All-Star break, ending a seven-game winless slump.

The home team gets its choice of going first or second in the shootout and Blues coach Andy Murray likes to go first to apply pressure. This time he let Legace set the tone, and then chose McDonald to shoot first coming off a solid game.

"Your mindset is you pick three guys and you're going to score three goals," coach Andy Murray said. "That's what you think every time."

The Blues had to kill a penalty to get out of regulation after Keith Tkachuk was whistled for tripping Todd Marchant behind the St. Louis net with 1:27 to go. The Ducks got only one shot the rest of the regulation, and none in final 37 seconds of the power play at the start of overtime.

Weight, who had resisted the trade, got a warm reception from a sellout crowd. He got a nice round of applause when he was introduced on the Ducks' starting line before winning the opening faceoff, then got a standing ovation during a break in the first period when the video board zeroed in on him on the bench.

He wasn't surprised by Legace's saves, which included two break-ins and a deflection in the first period.

"The only goals that have been beating him have been tip-ins, rebounds, backdoors, flukes," Weight said. "If the puck's there and he sees it he makes the save.

"We had some great opportunities, but that was Manny."

The game was penalty-free until the final minute of the first, when McDonald and Bertuzzi were whistled for coincidental minors. The teams combined for seven penalties in the second, and the best chance on the Ducks' six-shot power play early in the period came when Legace stopped Getzlaf in front.

Notes: Teemu Selanne, who came out of retirement and signed with the Ducks on Monday, is still rounding into shape and was a healthy scratch for the second game. ... Blues trainer Ray Barile worked his 1,000th game. ... Getzlaf is scoreless the last three games after a career-best 15-game point streak. ... Of the Blues' 50 games, 24 have been decided by one goal. They're 12-5-7.
