Teemu Selanne continues to climb up the NHL's career points list, but he and the Ducks are still finding wins hard to come by.
Down by two in the final period at Nashville, Selanne assisted on a Francois Beauchemin goal to inch Anaheim closer to the lead. It was the Finnish Flash's 1,369th career point (900th as a Duck), tying him for 23rd on the league's all-time scoring list with Johnny Bucyk.
But the Ducks would get no closer in a 3-2 defeat to the Predators. The horn sounded as Anaheim was trying feverishly to even the game with goaltender Dan Ellis pulled for an extra attacker.
It was Anaheim who jumped out in front first at Bridgestone Arena. After a scoreless first period, Andrew Gordon, who returned to the lineup after being scratched the last two games, lit the lamp just 38 seconds into the middle frame. It was Gordon's second goal of the season (both in his last three games played) and third of his career.
That lead would be short-lived, as Nick Spaling connected off a nice pass from Colin Wilson close to 12 minutes later in the second period.
Nashville, who have now won all three games in the season series with the Ducks thus far, seized control in the final stanza. With Brandon McMillan in the penalty box for a slashing penalty, Roman Josi found the back of the net for his first career goal at the 2:33 mark of the third. About three minutes later, Jordin Tootoo pushed another past the stripe for the Predators. Beauchemin would get his fourth goal of the season with 6:36 remaining in regulation.
Anaheim (8-16-5) will return to Honda Center for a Wednesday game against the Coyotes. That will be the final home game for the Ducks before the Christmas holiday.
Notes: Selanne also extended his point-scoring streak to five games. ... Nashville is 6-1-1 in its past eight regular-season home games against Anaheim. Nashville coach Barry Trotz coached his 1,013th game Saturday, third among games coached with one team behind the New York Islanders' Al Arbour and Buffalo's Lindy Ruff.
