After clawing all the way back from a three-goal deficit in the second period, the Ducks suffered another cruel twist of fate in ultimately being defeated by the Stars 5-3.

Knotted at three goals apiece entering the final 20 minutes of play, Anaheim saw its comeback put to rest when Michael Ryder and Eric Nystrom scored to seal a Stars win.

It was all Dallas in the early part of contest at American Airlines Center. The club connected for two goals in a 24-second span near the start of the middle frame to jump in front on the scoreboard 3-0. But the Ducks valiantly fought back later in the period to make it an even game.

The comeback began when Teemu Selanne's power play shot from the left circle found the back of the net at the 4:30 mark of the second. It was Selanne's ninth straight game with a point, tied with Chicago's Patrick Sharp for the longest scoring streak in the NHL this season.

Lubomir Visnovsky inched Anaheim to within a goal more than 10 minutes later. The defenseman's one-timer deflected off Vernon Fiddler's stick in traffic before crossing the stripe behind Dallas rookie goaltender Richard Bachman. It was Visnovsky's first goal since returning from injured reserve last Wednesday.

The game would soon be tied, as Nick Bonino nicely redirected a Cam Fowler shot into the net for his second career goal (his first came back on March 29, 2010, also vs. Dallas). Earning the second assist on the play was Selanne, who bypassed longtime Dallas Star Mike Modano for sole possession of 22nd place on the NHL's all-time scoring list with 1,375 points.

With the game even at 3-3, Ryder skated up the middle and converted Loui Eriksson's setup for Ryder's 11th goal of the season.

Eric Nystrom added an insurance goal for Dallas at 14:19 of the third.

The Ducks fell to 0-9-3 in their last 12 on the road, 1-5-0 in their last six overall.

Bachman made his fifth straight start - and home debut - while regular goalie Kari Lehtonen sat out his ninth consecutive game due to a groin injury. Lehtonen is skating and is expected to be back in the net within a week.

Brendan Morrow got the scoring underway at 9:06 of the opening period, striking from low in the right circle off a pass from Ribeiro after the linemates worked a 2 on 1.

The Stars hadn't skated 5 on 3 all season, but they had a pair of two-man advantages in the first two periods.

Dallas capitalized on the second when Goligoski's shot from the point glanced off Anaheim defenseman Francoise Beauchemin and past goaltender Jonas Hiller at 1:19 of the second period.

The Stars cashed in on a 5 on 4 advantage at 1:43 of the second when Ribeiro scored from the left circle for a 3-0 lead.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
