GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Sami Vatanen, Dustin Penner and Ryan Getzlaf scored during a 4:51 span of the second period, and the red-hot Anaheim Ducks won for the 16th time in their past 17 games, 5-3 against the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday.
Hampus Lindholm scored two goals for Anaheim, in the first and third period. Mathieu Perreault had three assists, and Corey Perry had two for the Ducks, who completed a five-game sweep of the Coyotes this season.
The Ducks (34-8-5) have scored at least four goals in a franchise-record six straight games and improved to an NHL-best 73 points. Jonas Hiller made 28 saves and is 22-4-4 after his 13th straight win, the most by an NHL goalie since Chris Osgood of the Detroit Red Wings in 1995-96.
The Ducks are the seventh team in NHL history to win 16+ games in a 17-game span (16-1-0). Anaheim is 8-0-0 at Honda Center and 8-1-0 on the road during the stretch, including a league-high six-game winning streak overall. The club has come back from a deficit in 10 of the 16 wins.
"It’s great to be winning so many games," said Hiller. "It proves I play consistent and the team plays consistent over the last month and a half. I was a little worried tonight was going to be the night where something doesn’t go right, but I’m really happy it worked out again."
Getzlaf, after scoring his 23rd goal, he left the game with a lower-body injury for what the Ducks called precautionary reasons.
Coyotes goalie Thomas Griess allowed four goals on 23 shots. He was pulled for Mike Smith after Getzlaf capped the three-goal surge. The Coyotes ended a 2-4-0 homestand and have gone 3-7-2 in their past 12 games at Jobing.com Arena. The Coyotes are 7-10-6 after 14-4-4 start.
Lauri Korpikoski, Martin Hanzal and Mike Ribeiro scored for Phoenix. Hanzal had an assist, and Radim Vrbata tied a career high with three assists.
Korpikoski gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead with his third goal in the past four games. But after allowing the first goal for the 21st time this season, the Ducks rallied to win for the 16th time.
Hanzal's pass to Vrbata on the rush failed to connect, but Korpikoski pounced on the loose puck in the slot. Hiller stopped the first shot but the rebound bounced back to Korpikoski, who waited patiently for an opening before banking his seventh goal off the far post at 3:57.
The Ducks evened things after Hiller made an alert save on a Ribeiro deflection.
"I thought we had a better first period than we did in the past couple games," said Perreault. "In the second period, we scored four goals and took over the game. Then, we got a power-play goal. Our second period made it for us."
Greiss had to come out of the net to drop and smother Nick Bonino's scoring chance. But he was down and out when Lindholm scooped up the rebound and slid it between two Phoenix defenders at 12:27. Lindholm's fourth goal of the year snapped Griess' shutout streak at 109 minutes, 59 seconds, dating to Dec. 28 when he allowed Saku Koivu's winning goal in overtime at Anaheim.
The Phoenix collapse started with a soft goal. Perreault fanned on a shot attempt between the circles, but the puck slid to the point and Vatanen teed up a one-timer. Greiss saw the shot all the way but the puck squeezed between his pads and trickled over the goal line at 5:44.
Penner made it 3-1 Anaheim at 9:11 from the left circle, one-timing a Perry feed from behind the net over Greiss' blocker. Getzlaf pushed the Ducks' lead to 4-1 1:40 later, faking Greiss to the ice with a Penner setup before switching to the backhand to fill an empty net.
Lindholm got his second on the power play at 6:10 of the third, beating Smith to make it 5-1. Hanzal countered with a 5-on-3 goal at 11:16 for Phoenix, and Ribeiro scored on the power play with 1:50 left.
The Ducks will be back in action tomorrow night against the Detroit Red Wings at Honda Center.
"It can’t get any better when you’re winning like that," said Perreault. "Everyone has a smile on their face. It’s fun to come to the rink every day. We’ve been enjoying ourselves quite a bit lately."
